A software development engineer in test (SDET) is an IT professional primarily responsible for the creation of automated test frameworks, design and implementation of test cases, and writing code to improve the overall testability of software.
This is a new position on the team, and it is likely to evolve over time. Initially you will oversee or be responsible for the following tasks:
• Work with the developers & actuarial consultants to create a test plan for newly added functionality.
• Explore the various automation tools available and identify the one most suited to the product.
• Create and maintain automated testing frameworks that cover both frontend and backend tests.
• Automate test cases for both frontend and backend.
• Experience with different testing types: smoke, regression, performance and functional.
• Work with the product owner, actuaries, and development leads to determine the scope of automated testing.
• Create, maintain, and enforce Test plan including risk analysis & management for releases.
• Create an automated test strategy to make the product's more robust and efficient.
• Recommend best practices for testing to development teams.
Skills and experience that will lead to success:
- JavaScript/TypeScript
- Development of automated UI test frameworks and processes (Gherkin/Cucumber, Cypress)
- API Test Automation skills (Postman, JMeter, SoapUI)
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- You can work under pressure and are proactive, and adaptable.
- Ability to mentor other team members.
- Ability to interact with clients and establish any QA related requirements.
- Ability to collaborate with developers, delivery teams, consultants, and dev ops engineers.
Nice to have skills:
- Azure DevOps – Pipelines and CI/CD processes
- Python, Python unit tests, pytest
- Understanding of SQL/TSQL
- Experience in diverse automation tools such as UFT/UI Path.
